A trade that throughout the centuries has maintained its traditions; maintaining an ever-narrowing line between art and craft. In Stia (Ar) there is the biennale, which has become an important event for the trade on a European level, with over 200 blacksmiths representing 20 nations exhibiting. The event lasts four days and is gaining an ever-growing success amongst the public and critics. It is emotional to ‘directly’ assist the creations of blacksmiths, who create wonderful objects using the most rigorous of artisan techniques, by watching, admiring and buying their wares.

Leaflets about the old blacksmith workshops can be found in various locations in the valley. They point out, in particular, the two workshops that are still functioning in Pagliericcio, in the district of Castel San Niccolò.

Every two years the town of Stia organizes the BIENNALE DEL FERRO BATTUTO (BIENNALE OF WROUGHT IRON), which is linked to the international forging competition.
