Lago degli Idoli

Lago degli Idoli is located 1380 metres above sea level, on the southern slope of Monte Falterona, near the headwaters of the Arno.

Excavations in 1838-1839, 1971 and 1972 brought to light a large number of artefacts, including over 600 small Etruscan bronzes. The votive offerings of Falterona show it was a centre of pilgrimage in ancient times linked to the ‘health cult of the waters’.
