Fulling mill

The fulling mill was a building where fulling, the process of shrinking and thickening woollen cloth, was performed. The woollen fabric was put in chests called pile, beaten with pestelli - large wooden hammers - and alternately raised by a bladed shaft connected to a water-wheel.
