Dovizi

Cardinal Bernardo Dovizi was born in Bibbiena in 1470 and died mysteriously in 1520. He was the man behind the elevation to the papacy of Cardinal Giovanni de’ Medici, who took the name of Leo X. An authoritative figure in the Papal court, he wrote the comedy La Calandria and had Palazzo Dovizi built in Bibbiena in 1498.
